Football season has started- Go Seahawks

We signed Malachi up with the FFL (Frisco Football League) this summer. They started practicing around the end of August and today they had their first season game! He loves it! Jacob and I didn't realize how serious they take it here. I should have imagined! It's TEXAS, right!?! They had tryouts to draft players into teams. They also have cheerleading squads for the boys!

It is technically flag football and next year he'll start with pads, helmets and tackling. His team is called the Seahawks and they have 13 5-6 year old boys. At the very beginning the coach sent out an email and I remember a line he used in one of the paragraphs, "It takes a whole nation (parents) to get this team going." And he wasn't kidding! There is much that is required of us as parents- from bringing snacks, fathers take care of scoreboards and be announcers during home games, fathers taking care of the chain on the sidelines, getting the boys to practice three times a week before games started and then to two practices when games start, etc. But after today's game it was all worth it. The boys had a lot of fun.

Yesterday one of the girls on the squad came over to drop off a poster with Malachi's name and #8 sign.

Enjoy the pictures!

I have to say we have a good team! We won 25-13. The coach has mentioned to Jacob and I that he feels he has a good group of kids who listen and execute directions well. The neat thing is that this group of kids will stick together as they grow in the next few years throughout their FFL career. :) Unless a boy decides to quit or new ones are added to the rooster, these boys will be a team. That is neat! And of course, we'll leave Malachi on the team until he decides on his own he's had enough. But for now we shall have some fun!
