Family Home Evening Fun

Two Mondays ago, it was my turn to do FHE. Like most times, I left it to the last minute to put together the lesson. Not to make excuses but mainly because Mondays are my cleaning days; laundry, bathrooms, floors, etc. I end up running out of time to do that plus the usual; lunch, nap time, & dinner.

So I came across, while  looking for an idea, this awesome website with lots of FHE ideas for kids. Which I had saved on my phone but somehow lost it. I've tried going to back but can't find it. I will keep looking.

Any who, I got an idea but switched it up a bit. Malachi has been singing in Nursery, "Follow the Prophet." And usually sings this during the week at home while he marches around the house. So I thought it would be fun to talk about our living prophet, Thomas S. Monson, and some ancient prophets. Then take turns dressing up as the prophet, and while following the leader marching around our house, we sang "Follow the Prophet." He loved it! Was very excited about it!

I know that sometimes it can be very hard, especially with the adversary there, to set a specific time to teach our children the Gospel. But I know that it is worth it! It brings much happiness in the home. Especially with a simple thing as FHE.

I was reading a talk by Elder Richard J. Maynes, this week about having a Christ centered home. He said

"Sister Maynes and I learned some important principles as we began the process of establishing a Christ-centered home early in our marriage. We started by following the counsel of our Church leaders. We brought our children together and held weekly family home evenings as well as daily prayer and scripture study. It was not always easy, convenient, or successful, but over time these simple gatherings became treasured family traditions.

We learned that our children might not remember everything about the family home evening lesson later in the week, but they would remember that we held it. We learned that later in the day at school they would probably not remember the exact words of the scriptures or the prayer, but they would remember that we did read scriptures and we did have prayer. Brothers and sisters, there is great power and protection for us and our youth in establishing celestial traditions in the home."

I have a testimony of this. I see it in Malachi. Sometimes he's the one reminding us to pray at night or when we're about to eat. Sometimes I am very tired at night and just want to put him to sleep and skip scripture reading, but he's the one reminding me to do it. I love that kid. I know that if Jacob and I strive to continue to make these times "treasured family traditions," our children will have "the power and protection" they need as they grow in the faith.

Awww. He's so cute. I love FHE. You can really feel the spirit enter your home during, every single time. It's incredible.
