Our First Turkey

This year we had Thanksgiving in our home!

I will admit, it was a bit stressful at first, to figure out the how's and what's for the menu. But like everything else I tackled it down! :) After much research on Food Network and other cooking websites I found the recipes for our menu. Then, I planned out what needed to be done, in order, for everything to be ready on time. So on Wednesday, Jacob and Malachi made the pumpkin pie while I prepared the dough for homemade rolls.

I must say, I will never buy pumpkin pie again! It was very easy, fast, and ten times more delicious when we made it!

I also brine the turkey the night before. Here's the recipe, if you ever need one: Good Eats Roast Turkey. It was SUPER tender! I think the brine made a whole of a difference. Here's our dinner:
Jacob started cutting before I could take a picture of the whole bird.

Mashed potatoes

Homemade rolls

String beans with bacon and onions & Gravy

Fruit Salad

Green Salad
We had an early dinner around 2 p.m. Then we enjoyed some football. Go Cowboys! And caught up on our Harry Potter movies.
Someone really enjoyed the mashed potatoes

And this little guy had about 4 servings of turkey that afternoon!

It was a lot of work but in the end so worth it! We enjoyed ourselves preparing, cooking, and eating it! And the best part is that we have leftovers to make turkey sandwiches and we'll see what else I come up with. :) Though we didn't pick a huge turkey so our leftovers won't go to waste completely. I think we can get 2-3 more meals out of that turkey before it's completely gone.

I am grateful for Thanksgiving. For the opportunity we have to spend time with family, even if it's just our immediate family, and enjoy ourselves! Even if enjoying ourselves includes a nap! ;)
